About us
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification for the entire textile supply chain. GOTS covers the entire post-harvest processing (including spinning, knitting, weaving, dyeing and manufacturing) of apparel and home textiles made with certified organic fibre (such as organic cotton and organic wool), and includes both environmental and social criteria. Key provisions include a ban on the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), highly hazardous chemicals (such as azo dyes and formaldehyde), and child labour, while requiring strong social compliance management systems and strict waste-water treatment practices. GOTS was developed by leading international standard setters - Organic Trade Association (U.S.), Japan Organic Cotton Association, International Association Natural Textile Industry (Germany), and Soil Association (UK) to define globally-recognised requirements that ensure the organic status of textiles, from field to finished product. GOTS IMPRESSIONS: World Organic Youth Conference in Shanghai Wrapping up a wonderful two days at the 3rd World Organic Youth Conference in Shanghai, hosted by IFOAM Asia, we're thrilled that organic textiles were a key part of the hot-spot event on sustainable living and organic lifestyle. 🌿 Felicia Shi, GOTS Representative in APAC, delivered an engaging presentation on “Meet GOTS—Your Source for Sustainable and Ethical Textiles”. Her speech sparked further talks with the audience from organic groups. She also shared her insights in an interview with SATINE, the official sponsor of Yili Group after the event. 👚 Additionally, the conference featured a show area of organic products. At our GOTS booth, we displayed an array of GOTS intermediate and end products, from yarns, fabrics, and sanitary pads, to high-end clothing. The event also included a tour of local organic farms, enriching the understanding of the organic lifestyle of all participants. We extend our gratitude to IFOAM Asia and all the participants for a successful event. This is a junior position, and fluency in English is essential and a background in environmental studies e.g. climate, wastewater in connection to textile industry will be an advantage. Warum sind GOTS-zertifizierte Produkte besonders essenziell im Gesundheitswesen? 🏥💡 Über 400 Experten und Expertinnen aus Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz kommen am 14. und 15. Mai 2024 anlässlich des 14. Beschaffungskongress der Krankenhäuser in Berlin zusammen um über Innovationen und Wirtschaftlichkeit im öffentlichen Auftragsvergabe der Gesundheitssektor zu diskutieren. Als direkter Unterstützer des Events möchte GOTS vor allem die Aufmerksamkeit und die Wichtigkeit von GOTS-zertifizierten Produkten und deren Nutzung im Gesundheitsbereich steigern. Herbert Ladwig, GOTS Policy and Legal Advisor, wird ebenfalls Teil des Panels „Grüne Transformation in Beschaffung und Logistik II” sein und die Rolle der GOTS-Zertifizierung näher erklären. Im Gesundheitswesen ist es von großer Bedeutung, Produkte zu verwenden, die frei von schädlichen Chemikalien und Pestiziden sind, da sie direkten Kontakt mit Menschen in Behandlung, sowie Arbeitskräften im Krankenhaus selbst haben können.
